Learn any language with an AI that grows with you

  • Works with Claude, ChatGPT or any AI
  • Lessons built around your level, your interests and your mistakes
  • Free, open source, and your data stays yours

Not a chatbot. Not an app.

  • A chatbot answers, then forgets you.
  • An app gives everyone the same lessons.
  • An AI agent knows where you are, and what you need next.
I'd love to understand this podcast episode about cooking.

Right now, you'd spend more time in the dictionary than enjoying it. Let's get you ready first.

  1. It writes a simpler version of the episode, and reads it aloud to you.
  2. It turns the new words into flashcards.
  3. It explains the grammar point the episode keeps using.
  4. When you're ready, it takes you back to the real episode and checks what you understood.
  5. Then it keeps what you learned alive: it comes back in your reviews, your writing and your text conversations.

How it works

  • It remembers you

Your words, your mistakes, your progress. Every session picks up where the last one left off.

  • It trains your ear and your accent

Tell similar sounds apart, train with shadowing. It keeps track of what you practised.

  • Bring your own content

A textbook chapter, a podcast, an article, a song. It turns them into lessons and exercises.

  • It finds content for you

No material? It finds texts, videos and podcasts on the web, matched to your level and interests.

  • Use the AI you already pay for

Claude, ChatGPT or another one: YouParle runs on it.

  • In agent mode, not chat

It runs in the desktop apps that can work with files on your computer: Claude Code, Codex and others. The install guide shows you how.

  • Your files, your data

Lessons, flashcards and notes live in plain files on your computer. Switch AI provider whenever you like.

  • Free and open source

The whole system is public. Use it, read it, change it. It will stay that way.

Who's behind it

Franck
Franck PhD in linguistics, AI engineer, creator of YouParle

I'm French and speak two other languages fluently. I learned them the slow way: textbooks, notebooks, apps that forgot me the moment I closed them.

So I built the system I wanted: an AI that remembers what I know and what I keep getting wrong, and turns whatever I'm reading or listening to into lessons. I use it every day to improve my Ukrainian and to learn Chinese from scratch.

Now I'm opening it up to other learners.

Learning French? I also coach a few learners with this system myself: YouParle Guided French.

Questions before you start

Which languages can I learn?

There is no fixed list. It depends on three things.

Writing. Your AI must know the language well. That depends on your AI's provider.

Sound. Your teacher needs a voice that reads texts aloud in your language, and a transcription tool that turns recordings into text. Your teacher looks for them with you, or uses the ones you already have. Without a voice, it can still use recordings it finds, but it can't read its own texts aloud. More on voices

Content. The web has texts and recordings even in rare languages, on Wikipedia among other places. You can also bring your own material, such as a course in a PDF or a textbook.

The whole system works on one principle: your teacher bases what it teaches on reliable sources, such as dictionaries, grammars and your course, rather than on what the AI thinks it knows. So the more resources it has, the better it works. Your own material adds to the sources it finds on the web: it does not replace them.

How much does it cost?

YouParle is free. You need a subscription to your AI, which runs your teacher. A more capable model uses up your subscription's limits faster. Choosing a model

Which AI do I need?

An AI with a desktop app that can work with files on your computer, often called agent mode. Claude, ChatGPT and others have one. A chat on a website isn't enough: there, your AI can't keep your course on your computer.

You can move to another AI later, and keep your whole course. Switching AI

Does it work on my phone?

Your teacher runs on a computer. On your phone, you can read your lessons and review your flashcards, with the Obsidian app. For that, your course folder must be synced to your phone. There are free ways to do it, and your teacher helps you set one up. Your lessons on your phone

Can I start from zero?

Yes. Your teacher talks to you in the language you choose, checks your level, and starts from there.

Do I need to be technical?

No. You install two apps: your AI's desktop app, and Obsidian, a free app where you read your lessons. Then you paste one message into your AI, and it installs the rest. It explains each step in plain words, and tells you why before it asks for your approval.

Where does my data go?

Your lessons, flashcards, notes and your teacher's memory are files on your computer. There is no YouParle account, and nothing from your course is sent to YouParle.

Your teacher runs on your AI. So what it reads goes to your AI's provider, as in any conversation with that AI.

YouParle offers no voice service. If your teacher sets up a voice or a transcription tool, that tool's terms apply.
